I worked as an interaction designer of the Apple Marcom Team for two years and designed several products on Apple online and Apple Store app. Here is one example from a brief to production design process as a part of the Apple Watch Series 3 launch.

Jobs To Be Done

There's an Apple Watch for everyone. Choose yours.

Challenge

Apple Watch is the first wearable tech from Apple that has the most customized options of what people are looking for. How can we help people to choose their Apple Watch more efficiently?

Understanding

Every Apple product, there is a clear distinction between marketing and retail. People learn about new features and get inspired by marketing pages. Then people navigate through retail pages to explore all options and read more details to finish researching prior to buying. Apple Watch was an exception, we wanted to come up with a hybrid page that people need to know.

Exploration

“Which Apple Watch should you buy? Which model, size, case material, color, and bands are best for your needs and budget? What do I need to know? Does this meet my needs?” These are a few questions that users would ask. With dozens of combinations available, the choice could be overwhelming. Here was my mood board on Pinterest for creating a grid wall. The big idea was creating hero images for each watch types to showcase the unique characteristics and feature cohesive content for all watches.

Mockups and UI/UX Design

I created three different viewports for mobile, tablet, and desktop with detailed specs to communicate explicitly with engineers.

Production

With QA, we checked on every viewport you can possibly imagine being pixel-perfect. We also checked several languages to refine any broken parts. While I was designing the page, I photoshoped the best angle to show on product thumbnails. Then the Production team replaced with the finalized images. We had design reviews prior to launch to be pixel-perfect.
